Not more grooming. A clearer routine.

Short beards still need a plan.

A little extra growth. A few hairs outside the shape. A mustache creeping onto the lip. At this length, small changes make a beard look less intentional.

This guide shows you the week I actually run on my own face: what I trim, what I leave alone, and what I skip when the morning gets busy.

“You are not reshaping the beard. You are picking lint off a jacket.” From the flyaway-trimming section of Keep It Tight

Inside the guide

Know what to do.
And when to stop.

A focused, illustrated guide—not a grooming encyclopedia or an excuse to buy more tools.

01 / THE MORNING

Tidy the shape.
Don’t trim it away.

Follow the comb, optional oil, comb-down, flyaway check, and brush sequence. Learn which stray hairs to cut instead of chasing every hair you see.

02 / THE RESET

One length.
A repeatable trim.

Work through my 15 mm beard reset, 10 mm mustache trim, lip-line cleanup, and optional sideburn transition, with photographs of the technique.

03 / REAL LIFE

Late morning?
Keep it simple.

Use the short-morning version, print the mirror plan, and keep a weekly rhythm without turning every day into a grooming project.

The week behind the book

A little upkeep.
A proper reset.

The schedule is simple. The guide gives you the order, settings, and photographs to put it into practice.

Workday mornings

The quick tidy-up.

Comb. Oil if you have time. Comb down. Deal with the obvious flyaways. Brush. Then walk away.

Wednesday + Saturday

Clean the edges.

Cheeks and neck first. Then the morning routine. Keep the line you already wear instead of redesigning it.

Saturday reset

Back to your numbers.

My settings: 15 mm beard, 10 mm mustache, then the lip line. Sideburns are optional. Sunday? Nothing required.

This is my routine, not a universal rule. The guide also covers a less frequent reset for slower growth.

Look inside before you buy

Real pages. Real technique.

These are pages from the actual PDF—not promotional mockups. The photographs show the same beard and tools used in the routine.

A specific guide for a specific beard

Is this your kind of routine?

A good fit if…

  • You wear a short beard around 10–20 mm and want to keep its shape consistent.
  • You prefer clear settings and a weekly plan to improvising every morning.
  • You want photographs of the actual technique, not just general beard-care advice.
  • You want to use a suitable trimmer you already own.

Probably not for you if…

  • You want a long-beard growth guide or a clean-shaving routine.
  • You want detailed cheek-line geometry or a professional barbering course.
  • You are looking for growth treatments, medical advice, or guaranteed results.
  • You want a trimmer comparison or shopping catalogue. This is a routine guide.

The person behind the routine

Stanley.
GroomTest.

I test men’s grooming hardware and write from the tools on my own sink. Keep It Tight is the week I actually run, not a roundup of other people’s advice.

I have six kids under 14. Some mornings the beard is yesterday’s beard. That’s why this routine includes the version where you skip the oil and get on with your day.

No new trimmer required just because I name a model. If yours has the 15 mm and 10 mm settings this routine uses, start there.

Before you buy

A few straight answers.

What exactly do I get?

A 20-page PDF ebook: Keep It Tight — My 15 mm Week. It includes the morning routine, a printable weekly mirror plan, original technique photographs, the Saturday reset, optional sideburn work, tool-care notes, and information about the file. It is not a printed book or a video course.

Is this only for a 15 mm beard?

The guide comes from my own 10–20 mm beard, which I usually reset to about 15 mm. The worked settings are 15 mm for the beard and 10 mm for the mustache. It is not a separate, fully worked routine for every beard length.

Do I need a particular trimmer?

No. The book names the tools I use, but it does not require those models. For the worked routine, use a suitable trimmer with genuine 15 mm and 10 mm settings. The guide also explains what I keep on the sink for combing, brushing, and cheek-and-neck cleanup.

Does the whole routine take five minutes?

No. The 3–5 minute timing applies to the workday morning loop. Cheek-and-neck cleanup and the full Saturday reset are separate jobs. The book does not promise that a complete weekly trim fits into five minutes.

Can I print it?

Yes, for your own use. The guide includes a weekly plan designed to print and keep by the mirror. You may keep your own copies, but may not share, resell, or republish the PDF or its photographs.

Where do I buy and download it?

The purchase buttons take you to this ebook on Gumroad. You can review the current price, purchase details, and any applicable tax there before paying. The product is delivered as a downloadable PDF.

What if my beard or skin behaves differently?

This is a personal grooming routine, not medical or dermatology advice. Results vary. Trimming and shaving can cause cuts or irritation. Follow your tool manufacturer’s instructions, especially for cleaning and water exposure.

What about refunds or a problem with the file?

Review the refund policy shown on the Gumroad product and checkout before purchasing. The ebook states that defective-file problems, such as a corrupt download or missing pages, receive a replacement file or a refund. For questions about the file: stanley@groomtest.com.

Less improvising. More consistency.
