Remington Omniblade HG5000 | My Short Review

Remington Omniblade HG5000 Multi-Pro
After several uses I rate the Remington Omniblade HG5000 Multi-Pro at 4,2 out of 5 stars.
What I like:
- Versatility. The Remington Omniblade HG5000 Multi-Pro not only lets you trim your stubble or a short beard. Thanks to 11 additional attachments you are able to shave and trim your body hair or remove unwanted hairs from your nose and ears.
- The quality of “shaving”. While you cannot expect a super smooth shave that you get with a safety razor, the Remington Omniblade trimmers / shavers shave very close to the skin minimizing the skin irritation and possible cuts. On my medium coarse beard I was able to get almost the same quality of shave as with the Philips OneBlades (which gives me best results from all hybrid trimmers/shavers).
Not bad:
- Waterproof. The Remington Omniblade HG5000 Multi-Pro is 100% waterproof, so if you want you can use it in the shower or bath. I personally don’t use this feature, but maybe you are used to rinsing the trimmer under the tap after use, so you will appreciate this possibility.
- Battery life. The fully charged battery should enable you to use the trimmer without charging for about 60 minutes. To be honest most “quality” and well received trimmers on the market nowadays offer 100 or 120 minutes of cordless operation after a full charge.
Possible weak points:
- Battery charging time. The full charge of a fully depleted battery takes about 2 hours. Maybe not a bad result, but many competing models offer a 1 hour full charge. To be honest not a problem for me, but maybe you are used to a quick 1 hour charge from your current trimmer.
- The wheel dial. There’s an adjustable comb attachment for stubble (from 0,5 to 5 mm), where you set preferred length by turning a dial wheel. You actually do not hear any “clicks” between the settings. I have troubles with determining what length is currently set on the comb. Nevertheless the comb does help you to trim your stubble.

What are users saying about the Remington Omniblade HG5000 Multi-Pro?
Based on customer feedback, here's a summary of the strengths and weaknesses of the Remington Omniblade HG5000 trimmer:
Strengths (Pros) of the Remington Omniblade HG5000:
- Versatility / All-in-One Grooming: This is by far one of its biggest selling points. Users highly appreciate the comprehensive set of 11 interchangeable attachments (different combs, body blade, micro trimmer, nose/ear trimmer, facial cleaning brush). This allows them to use one device for various grooming needs, from beard trimming and styling to body hair removal and even nose/ear hair trimming and facial cleansing. This makes it a great travel companion as well.
- Close Shave (0.15mm): Many users praise its ability to cut very short, down to 0.15mm, giving a "skin-close" or "smoothly shaved" look without the irritation often associated with traditional wet shaving.
- Sharp and Durable Blade: The "Omniblade Technology" and the claim of the blade staying sharp for up to 5 years (with regular use) is a significant advantage and frequently mentioned positively. Users find the blades to be very sharp, providing efficient cutting.
- Waterproof (Wet & Dry Use): The 100% waterproof design allows for convenient wet shaving (with gel/foam) and easy cleaning under running water, which is a big plus for hygiene and comfort.
- Premium Feel and Design: Customers often comment on the sleek, metallic design and solid build quality, giving it a premium look and feel. It's lightweight and ergonomic, making it comfortable to hold and maneuver.
- Value for Money: Given the extensive features and included accessories, many users feel it offers excellent value for its price point.
- Effective for Thick Beards: Some users with particularly hard or thick beards have found it to be very effective, even surpassing other well-known brands.
Weaknesses (Cons) of the Remington Omniblade HG5000:
- Potential for Nicks/Irritation (without attachments): Several users report that when used directly on the skin without any comb attachment, especially on shorter hairs or for daily use, the blade can be quite aggressive and prone to causing minor nicks or irritation.
- Not as Precise as a Traditional Razor for Edges: While it provides a close shave, some users note that it might not be as precise as a traditional razor for creating very sharp lines and edges.
- Slower Charging Time: While the run time is good, a 2-hour charging time is considered average, and some users might prefer faster charging, especially in this price range.
- Rotary Wheel Control: One review mentioned that the control via a rotary wheel on the base might take some getting used to.
In conclusion, the Remington Omniblade HG5000 is highly regarded for its multifunctionality, close shave, and durable blades.
However, users should be mindful of its potential for irritation when used without attachments and consider using shaving gel for a smoother experience.
Overall, it's considered a strong contender in the hybrid groomer market, offering great value and versatility.
