The BaByliss E990E is a top-tier hair clipper for home use. Its strengths in cutting power, battery life, and precision far outweigh its weaknesses for the vast majority of users.

BaByliss E990E | My Short Review
In generali I quite liked working with the BaByliss E990E.

BaByliss E990E

I rate the BaByliss E990E hair clipper at 4,2 out of 5 stars.

Here's why...

What I like:

  • The blade. The BaByliss E990E is equipped with quality blades made of carbon-titanium Japanese steel. The blades need regular lubricating. The width of the blade is about 45 mm, which ensures efficient hair cutting.
  • Cordless / corded use. I love this feature very much. It is super handy. Although most times I use the clippers in the cordless mode, I don’t have to worry about the battery dying mid-cut.
  • Length setting range. This clipper allows you to set the length up to 25 mm, which I think is enough for a standard home use.

Not bad:

  • The comb guards. They hold pretty tight on the blade, which is crucial. Although all 8 comb attachments are made entirely of plastic, in my opinion they are fairly well made and feel quite sturdy.

Possible weak points:

  • Length setting system. I am a bit confused by the way you can set your preferred cutting length. The clipper has a dial ring built into the handle of the unit. Using this dial you are able to pick one of the following lengths: 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 3.0 mm. Now, if you clip a guard on the blade, let’s say 16 mm, additionally you have to remember to add to it the length set on the clipper.

What are users saying about the Babyliss E990E?

Based on customer feedback and user reviews from various online retailers and forums, the BaByliss E990E hair clipper is generally received positively.

Users recognize it as a premium home-use device that often bridges the gap between consumer-grade and professional tools.

Here’s a breakdown of the most common strengths and weaknesses mentioned by customers.

Strengths of the BaByliss E990E:

  • Exceptional Cutting Performance: The most frequently cited strength is the quality of the cut. The Japanese steel blades are consistently described as being incredibly sharp and precise, allowing the clipper to glide through hair—even thick and coarse types—effortlessly without pulling or snagging.
  • Outstanding Battery Life: The long cordless runtime of up to 160 minutes is a major selling point for users. Many express satisfaction with being able to perform multiple haircuts on a single charge. The quick-charge function is also appreciated for times when the battery is unexpectedly drained.
  • Solid Build Quality and Feel: Customers often describe the clipper as having a robust, solid, and well-balanced feel in hand. The premium materials contribute to a sense of durability and quality that cheaper clippers lack.
  • Precise Length Control: The combination of the 5-step taper control dial on the unit and the 8 separate comb guides is highly valued. This system allows for 45 different cutting lengths, giving users immense flexibility for fading, blending, and achieving exact styles.
  • Powerful and Consistent Motor: The digital motor is recognized for providing consistent power, whether corded or cordless. Users notice that it doesn't bog down or lose performance as the battery drains or when cutting through thicker sections of hair.
  • Useful Digital Display: The LCD screen that shows the remaining battery life in minutes and the current taper setting is seen as a very practical and modern feature, eliminating guesswork.

Weaknesses of the BaByliss E990E:

  • Comb Attachments: Some users have found the plastic comb attachments to feel less premium than the clipper body itself, describing them as occasionally rough or sharp on the scalp. A few have also mentioned that attaching and detaching the combs can be stiff and requires a bit of practice.
  • Blades Can Get Warm: In some reviews, customers have mentioned that the metal blade head can become noticeably warm to the touch during prolonged, continuous use. While not a safety issue, it is a point of comfort to be aware of.
  • Hair Can Get Trapped: A minority of users have reported that hair clippings can sometimes get trapped between the comb attachment and the clipper body, requiring occasional pausing to clear out.
