Babyliss E978E

In my opinion the Babyliss E978E decent versatile clipper that will help you maintain your beard as well.

I rate it 3,9 stars out of 5.

What I like:

  • Versatility. The Babyliss E978E is a pretty versatile tool. There are two quite similar comb attachments to trim your hair and beard. Both enable you to set 25 cutting lengths (1-25 mm) with 1 mm increments. The “beard comb” has a bit different design of the surface that touches the beard (“the bottom part”). Moreover there’s a separate little trimmer with a narrow blade. This is a battery-powered tool for detailed work, such as contouring and tidying up sideburns and necklines.
  • The blades. They are made of carbon-titanium steel. Their special design makes them really sharp and ensures efficient cutting.
  • Can run corded as well as cordless. This is a super handy feature, no stress about possible battery dying mid-cut.

Not bad:

  • Built quality. Although the clipper’s handle is made entirely from the plastic, my overall feeling about the quality is rather positive.
  • Length settings. The system for setting your preferred cutting length is quite nice. The ring is built in the handle. It is convenient and lets you pick your setting fast and precisely. In my opinion, the ring is a bit stiff. It's not a big deal for me, but I suspect that some users could be more negative about this matter than me :)

Possible weak points:

  • Not waterproof. If you are used to cleaning your hair clipper swiftly and conveniently under the tap, the Babyliss E978E could disappoint you. The unit itself should not be immersed in the water, but the detachable head (with the blades) and combs can be rinsed under running water.
Interactive Review: BaByliss E978E Hair Clipper

A Product of Two Halves

The BaByliss E978E presents a paradox: a powerful, high-quality cutting system critically undermined by a poorly designed and uncomfortable user interface. This interactive analysis breaks down what users love, what they hate, and who this clipper is actually for.

Pros vs. Cons

The Strong Foundation

Despite its flaws, the E978E has a core of excellent features that users consistently praise. These are the elements that make the product a contender.

⚡️ Sharp Blades & Powerful Motor

The Carbon-Titanium blades deliver a smooth, clean cut without pulling hair, a feature that users feel sets it apart from cheaper models.

"where another clipper pulls in the hair, this one slides through very easily."

🔌 Dual Corded/Cordless Use

The ability to use the clipper while plugged in is a critical failsafe, bypassing the long battery charge time and ensuring it's always ready.

"Handy is that you can also use the clipper with a mains adapter. Not all clippers can do that... This clipper can."

🎁 Excellent Accessory Kit

The included hard case and separate precision trimmer add significant value, providing a complete and well-organized grooming solution.

"Thanks to the precision trimmer, the hair clippers are also suitable for creating clean lines."

The Critical Flaws

These are the deal-breakers for many users. The product's potential is held back by significant design and technology shortcomings.

👎 The Painful Comb Attachment

The single biggest complaint. The adjustable comb is described as sharp, rough, and physically painful on the scalp, ruining the experience.

"do not buy, device is good, but comb attachment ruins everyt[hing]."

😫 Frequent Clogging

The space between the comb and blades traps hair, constantly blocking the clipper and forcing users to stop and clean it repeatedly.

"hair stays between comb and device... cutting hair becomes difficult when it gets a bit long."

🔋 Outdated Battery Tech

An 8-hour charge for only 60 minutes of use is excessive by modern standards. There is no fast-charge function.

"The hair clippers don't have a fast charge function to charge the device extra quickly."

The Final Verdict

So, should you buy it? It depends entirely on who you are and what you're willing to tolerate.

Who Is This Clipper For?

The ideal user is a **price-conscious pragmatist**.

  • Values a low price and a complete kit over a perfect experience.
  • Performs simple, single-length haircuts and isn't attempting complex styles.
  • Is willing to tolerate the uncomfortable comb and frequent cleaning in exchange for a powerful cut and great accessories.

In short: It's a capable tool for basic home maintenance, but not for the grooming perfectionist.
